i don't think you understand the majesty of my magazine. i mean, for serious. NOONE and i mean NOONE will leave my magazine on a bus or even take it on a bus. Nor will i advertize for nothing except hotdogz and other steak things.
 

The Wiener Dog Named Dido

“She’s a hot-dog dog,” she jokes, and I chuckle appropriately.

The dog park on a Thursday after work is packed, this young brunette a clever girl, leather necklaces, bracelets, and (I’ve decided) a decent body, and she does not seem to mind me
hitting on her.

“C’m’ere, Dido!” leaning forward and patting her thighs in a way that makes her breasts shake.

The wiener dog named Dido doesn’t notice, busy with her little stubby legs chasing a rottweiler.

Our conversation lulls, and in my mind I compose this verse to her ugly little pooch:

“I sing of bones and of a dog, her fate
‘s to run short-legg’d, with silly plodding gait.
Great Beast! that I’ve Aeneas named, goes far
Astride the field, his jangling collar loud.
Between mesh fence, Apollo gazes down
Upon a pack of bitches, dogs, and man
And laughs. Poor wiener dog, the god commands,
You silly wretch, forbear! But Dido’s way
Won’t be deterr’d; she’ll neither sit nor stay.
Unlike the princess, f’r whom she’s nam’d, this dog
Won’t play the ugly game of dead. She calls
With little yaps and barks; her knight ignores,
Like his namesake, sets boldly from the shores.
Weep no more, woeful wiener, weep no more,
Your hero races ‘cross the grassy floor
Like Trojan prince, his legs a mighty sloop,
He roves, sniffs ass, and rustles up some poop.”

Meanwhile, there is one of those awkward silences.

“Dido … huh, that’s cool name.”

The brunette looks back at me and smiles sardonically. “Yeah, it was. I gave her the name after the Lilith Fair in ’99, but then after ‘Stan’ came out later that year and got all the radio play, after that everyone’s like, cool, so are you a big Eminem fan?, and I’m like, no, I mean I like Eminem, it’s actually a cool song and I think what he did with it was actually cool. But, that’s not what I was thinking when I named my dog, you know?”

I smile and nod in agreement, suddenly shamed, and feel glad that I escaped outing myself for being such a nerd. I decide that if I can nail her, that’ll make up for it.
